simple vs compound interest

APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is simple interest — 10% APR on $1,000 earns exactly $100/year. APY (Annual Percentage Yield) includes compounding — your interest earns interest. The more frequently you compound, the higher the APY relative to APR.
